Theo Mercier was the victim in Under the Thunderdome (Case #21 of Pacific Bay).

Theo was a thief accused of multiple robberies. He was a dark-skinned, black-haired man with a light stubble and a mole near his lips. He wore a gray beret and donned a sky blue shirt accompanied with a gray vest. Besides that, he wore a pair of blue denim jeans.

Murder details

Amy and the player found Theo with a weather vane impaled through his throat and stuffed in a military crate inside the Thunderdome serving as an evacuation center for Hurricane Zelda. They sent his body to Roxie, who confirmed that the weather vane jammed in his throat caused Theo to die of both blood loss and respiratory failure. While Roxie noted that the top half (the rooster) of the vane was missing, she found blurred fingerprints with traces of chicory on the part of the vane present, meaning that the killer drank chicory.

Later, the team found the missing weather vane ornament near the crime scene. On it, the team isolated skin cells which (per Yann's analysis) proved that the killer was male.

Relationship with suspects

According to Colonel Spangler (who was in charge of the evacuation operation), Theo repeatedly committed theft while in the evacuation center and was also causing a panic over a lack of medical supplies. Theo also stole classified military documents but had no time to crack the code, much to Spangler's relief. Theo's father, Hugo, also hated his guts for abandoning him and their house during both hurricanes and also stealing from him upon evacuating. Peggy Pascal also threatened Theo for selling her a faulty radar and for refusing to sell the classified military document that could prove that the hurricanes were manmade. Theo regularly stole both over-the-counter and prescription medicine from Claude Lamothe's pharmacy. Claude had confronted him "man-to-man" to give the medicine back, but he laughed at his face. Meanwhile, Theo was in an on-and-off relationship with Dinah Cooper, who loved him but did not necessarily trust him. Dinah had begged and even paid Theo to give some stolen medicine for her son's asthma, but he hiked up the price last-minute.

Killer and motives

The killer turned out to be Claude.

Initially denying involvement, Claude admitted to the crime. Claude thought Theo's medicine redistribution plan was harmful to the public and so he waited in the pharmacy to confront Theo again. When Theo tried to push past him into the pharmacy, Claude grabbed a weather vane that had fallen off during Hurricane Yves and impaled Theo with it to protect the public. Judge Dante sentenced him to 25 years in jail.
