Notable events of Criminal Case

The formation of the force

Chief Arrow and Ben assembled the Supernatural Hunters in 1994 after a vampire killed Arrow's wife, Lily, in which they discovered the existence of supernatural creatures. The two of them had been hunting supernatural creatures to save people ever since, losing Arrow's arm in doing so. Ben also saved Priya from a werewolf attack, which resulted in her turning out to be a werewolf. Due to her chemistry expertise, Chief Arrow recruited her as a chemist while volunteering to keep her secured on full moons. The Chief would recruit Felix (who had studied about occult to figure out the lizard monster that made him unable to walk while he was a student), Gwen (who was raised in a supernatural hunting family), and Hope (whose guardian was murdered by demons).

The player would join the force as their newest recruit after Priya and Luke (who was inspired to become a supernatural hunter by a ghost attack he witnessed), being immediately assigned to investigate the murder of Edward Blake. While investigating, the player met most of the members of the force, the last of them being Luke, whom the player met later in Oregon.

The team's investigations into tracking the vampire, who kidnapped teenager Mina Reynolds, led them to learn that the vampire was making an elixir that made the vampire invincible to sunlight and wooden stakes, using Mina's blood and the Dawn of Night flower as the ingredients. With the vampire attacking Felix in the process due to him keeping the flower, the team finally uncovered the rogue vampire and killed him with a stake dipped in Mina's blood.

Discovering the existence of demons

In the Southwest, the team began investigating a malevolent force draining the life force from the livestock and the land, tainting the bodies it leaves behind with sulfur. Through Navajo elder Haseya Roanhorse, they then discovered that the force was a demon wreaking havoc. Meanwhile, the team also learned about Abigail Riley, a ghost possessing the bodies of five people, including Jesse Adams and Justine Bankston, to commit murders. They would later find out that the five people were found to be five of six friends of Riley present when she died five years ago, with another one being R.J. Fielding, who was found murdered instead.

After finding out that Axel Bross was ordered to commit the murder by his lover, Riley, he revealed that the six aforementioned people had successfully summoned a demon in exchange for Riley's life. Riley then appeared, possessing Luke's body and running away with Axel. After convincing skeptical FBI Agent George Mathison to release Chief Arrow, whom the former arrested mid-investigation, the team exorcised Riley from Luke's body, arrested Axel, and convinced Riley to find peace. Meanwhile, through witch Agnes Leek, they found out that the demons roaming in the Earth were unbanishable except by another demon, had the teleportation skills, and they could disguise themselves as human beings.

The team left for the Rockies after receiving an email telling them to stop looking into demons. After suspecting Priya of a murder on Christmas, she infiltrated Annette Strong's werewolf pack to gain intel on the werewolf involved with demons. In Idaho, the team learned through Chief Arrow's old mentor, Falcon, that the demons drew their strength from their Queen, whom the rebels defeated during the demon war, and that a spiritual veil hindered the demons to invade the Earth, but however, they could pass through the veil if either summoned or be strong enough. In Montana, Priya found out that novelist Arthur Darkwood was involved with Annette's pack and was the one sending the aforementioned messages, meaning that he was a demon. The team then confronted him, who, after revealing that he was not the summoned demon, warned them to stay away from a magical tree in Yellowstone.

The team headed to Yellowstone, only to find the tree with its core ripped out and Annette murdered. When arresting Zeke Davis for the murder, he revealed himself to be the demon summoned in the Southwest and that he took the magic tree core to the Netherworld before teleporting away. Later at midnight, the team confronted him, only for him to be banished to the Netherworld by a mysterious demon, who turned out to be Arthur. He revealed that the demons could do mind-reading, which explained why he was so secretive with the team, before telling the team that he would reveal his reason for being on Earth, but only after they had the Midwest witch coven protect their minds.

Preventing the Demon Queen's release

Throughout the Midwest, Gwen's mind was tormented and scoured by a demon, resulting in her kept experiencing visions of the demon war. After having their minds protected by Agnes Leek in Indiana (and rescuing the missing children abducted by the witch coven), Arthur divulged that he was one of the rebels who locked the Demon Queen up in a magical cage suspended in between Earth and the Netherworld with five keys. With four of the five keys already being retrieved (including two museum artifacts, a sextant guarded by the kraken, and the tree core in Yellowstone), the fifth key's identity was unknown except by the cage's creator, Rathimael, who had been killed years ago. However, Arthur only knew that Rathimael was living in the East before his death.

In Niagara Falls, the team concluded that it was Rathimael who was burned near the Falls with traces of sulfur on the crime scene. The team then set off to Rathimal's former mansion in Salem, Massachusetts, where they found his ring which had a magical inscription only viewable with the Eye of Sparron. After Hope left the team due to Chief Arrow confronting her for stealing the ring for unknown reasons, the team headed to the Smithsonian, where they found the Eye, allowing them to learn that the fifth key was a human baby who would be 25 years old during the present day. Through convicted Prof. Theresa Rosenthal, the team discovered that Rathimael's human identity was Bob Nelson, who was always holding a baby before receiving news that she was found dead in the FBI headquarters.

With George's aid, the team uncovered Reggie Pratt as the demon who had infiltrated Gwen's mind and who drove Theresa to suicide while looking through the identity of the fifth key in her mind. After he teleported away, the team learned that the demons had the fifth key, who was shockingly Hope herself, meaning that the demons had her. Arthur then told the team that they still had a fighting chance as the forces in the dimension of the cage ebbed and flowed. With a jumper artifact, they transported to the dimension, seeing Reggie holding an unconscious Hope to unlock the Demon Queen's cage. After the cage was unlocked, Chief Arrow was shocked to discover that the Queen resembled his wife, Lily.

Defeating the Demon Queen

After encountering the Demon Queen, the team was able to retrieve a still unconscious Hope. Due to the Queen resembling Lily, the team then went to exhume her body, only to find her coffin empty. Meanwhile, after Hope was conscious, she revealed that she had run away in Salem when she saw Rathimael's ring because she realized that her guardian was a demon. After Hope and Chief Arrow reconciled, the team then went to Georgia, where the team uncovered another demon, Edwinata. Afterward, the team learned that the Queen was planning to break the veil between the Netherworld and Earth during a planetary alignment. The team also learned that Falcon, an ally of Rathimael, had bound the demon Queen to Lily's body due to them needing to put the Queen in a cage made from a completely pure being — a good fairy who was actually Lily — and had lured a vampire to drain her blood and exhumed her body a week after.

Arriving in Florida, after solving Gwen's mother, Dolores' murder (in which Gwen was suspected for), the team shockingly discovered through Arthur that Chief Arrow had pledged his loyalty to the Queen, thus betraying the team. The team then attended a supernatural emergency meeting discussing the demon invasion in Mississippi, supposedly moderated by Arthur, but however, he was reported missing after failing to show up at the meeting. After Priya moderated the meeting in his absence, the team soon found Arthur's torn jacket, prompting them to conclude that Arthur had either been killed by the demons or had been taken to the Netherworld.

After a demon guard imprisoned them in the Netherworld, the team found Arthur murdered. The guard, having been instructed by the Queen to keep both Arthur and the team alive for her plans to rip the veil between the Earth and the Netherworld, asked the team to investigate Arthur's murder. When the team arrested Zeke Davis for the murder, he admitted that the Queen needed Arthur's blood just before the planets aligned to break the veil. Not wanting the Queen to invade Earth, he killed Arthur to drain his blood, giving the blood to Chief Arrow for safekeeping, unaware that he had been on the Queen's side. The Chief had given his blood to the Queen, who drank it to transform into her true form. After the Queen ripped the veil and left to assemble the demon army, the Chief apologized to the team for his betrayal, telling them that he believed that Lily was actually lived through the Queen.

The team then discovered that Hope needed to take on Arthur's demonic form to defeat the Queen. After drinking from a magical chalice containing water from the River Styx and assumed the demon form, Hope confronted the Queen, who ordered her guard to attack the team. Hope blocked the guard's attack and immolated him with her flames, killing him. Following an intense battle in the sky, Hope attacked the Queen with an explosion, killing her, as well as her faithful due to their connection with the Queen as a source of power.

Two months later, with supernatural crime rates dropping, the team went to Paris to attend Priya and Zander Stark's wedding, officiated by Chief Arrow.
