Chief Gauthier Delacroix: <Name>, I can't tell you how glad I am to have you on the team!
Chief Delacroix: Judging by the success of your first case, you and Carrie are highly skilled investigators!
Carrie: Thanks, Chief! I just wish I was as good at speaking French as I am at investigating murders!
Carrie: When I got my morning croissant from the baker, she gave me the weirdest look!
Chief Delacroix: What did you say?
Carrie: I just said "mur-see boe-kyoo." Isn't that how it's pronounced?
Chief Delacroix (blushing): Oh, you meant to say "merci beaucoup!" But I'm afraid it sounded more like "beau cul," which means you told the baker she had a nice butt!
Carrie (sweating): Oh, no! Now I have to remember how to apologize in French! And make sure I practice it a million times before I see her again!
Hugo: I'm sorry to take away from your French lesson, <Name>, but we just got a call...
Hugo: A reporter for the fashion magazine Flamme was just found dead on a terrace near the Arc de Triomphe!
Carrie: Well, <Name>, we'd better head to the scene of the crime!

Chapter 1

Investigate Bistro Terrace.
Carrie James: <Name>, it looks like this guy was shot in the chest!
Carrie: But how could it happen out here in the open, near the Champs-Elysées, the most visited street of Paris, with no witnesses?
Carrie: You're right, that service tray could provide us with a clue! Leave no stone unturned!
Martine: Oh, thank you for coming so quickly! I can't believe this has happened!
Carrie: Calm down, Mademoiselle...
Martine: My name is Martine Meunier, and I am the editor for Flamme fashion magazine.
Martine: This man is Sébastien Lefebvre, one of my star journalists!
Carrie: Did you see what happened?
Martine: No, I was coming to meet Seb for an apéro at the bar, but when I got here, he was dead!
Carrie: Well, we'd like a moment to speak with you about his death.
(Martine leaves.)
Carrie: <Name>, so begins our second case together!

See what Martine Meunier knows about the victim.
Carrie: So, Miss Meunier, you said you were coming to meet Lefebvre for a drink?
Martine: Yes! It is something we do every Tuesday to relax. But I was late tonight, and when I got here there was no one else, just Sébastien, shot dead!
Carrie: You said Sébastien was one of the top journalists on your magazine, Flemme.
Martine: It is called "Flamme," like flames, thank you very much!
Martine: And yes, he was the best reporter we had, and a good friend of mine.
Carrie: Do you know if Sébastien had any enemies?
Martine: Oh, Seb was very opinionated, and he wasn't afraid to speak his mind! That's what made his writing so good.
Martine: But I don't know who would KILL over something he wrote!
Martine: I can let you see our office, if you feel it would be useful to search there. As a fashion magazine, people were coming and going all the time!
Carrie: Yes, thank you, it would be a big help! Let's head to the Flamme office now, <Rank> <Name>!

Investigate Victim's Office.
Carrie: Miss Meunier said the victim had people up to visit in his office all the time.
Carrie: So it's possible we could get some leads from things we find here. What have you got?
Carrie: Wow, <Name>, someone busted up this pocket watch pretty bad! Possibly out of anger?
Carrie: Let's get it pieced back together and take a closer look at it!
Carrie: And this glasses case doesn't look like the victim's style. Maybe unlocking it will lead us to someone who paid him a visit! Let's get to work!

Examine Broken Pocket Watch.
Carrie: Perfect, <Name>, the pocket watch is reassembled. But the engraving on the back of it is too rubbed away to read.
Carrie: Let's see if we can figure out what the engraving says!

Examine Back of Pocket Watch.
Carrie: <Name>, the engraving on the pocket watch says, "To Sébastien, compliments of Stacy's."
Carrie: I know Stacy's! It's a department store in the United States. I didn't think there were any Stacy's here in France...
Carrie (holding her phone): Oh, it looks like the CEO Howard Stacy is here scouting out possible locations to open a store in Paris.
Carrie: This pocket watch must be a gift from him! Makes sense that a department store CEO would want to buddy up to a fashion journalist.
Carrie: Let's see what Mr Stacy can tell us about the victim!

Ask Howard Stacy about his connection to the victim.
Carrie: Mr Stacy, we understand you knew Sébastian Lefebvre, a journalist for Flamme Magazine.
Howard: Yes, I plan to open a Stacy's location here in Paris, and I felt Mr Lefebvre's support would be a boon to our business strategy.
Carrie: Well, we found the watch you gave him - it was badly broken.
Howard: Yes, he was less than enthusiastic about associating with the Stacy's brand. But I have French investors willing to put in the work to make the store a success here.
Carrie: Sébastian Lefebvre was shot to death earlier tonight.
Howard: What?! Oh, that's awful!
Howard: Is his editor Martine Meunier involved in the investigation?
Carrie: We've spoken with her, yes. Why do you ask?
Howard: I had the pleasure of making her acquaintance. Did you know she used to work as a coroner in the States? What a bold career change! The woman is truly full of surprises.
Carrie: She was a coroner? She didn't tell us that. Let's remember that for when we speak to her next, <Rank> <Name>.
Howard: I must be going. Please let me know if I can contribute anything else to your investigation.

Examine Glasses Case.
Carrie: Bingo, <Name>! These glasses from the case have the name "J Segal" on them.
Carrie: We know that's not the designer's name, because these are Saint Yves brand glasses. So these belong to J Segal!
Carrie (holding her phone): There's a Juliette Segal listed as an intern working here. Let's talk to her!

Ask Juliette Segal about working with the victim.
Juliette: Oh, hello. You must be the investigators here about Sébastien.
Carrie: Yes, how do you know that?
Juliette: Everyone's talking about it here. It's so scary, what happened to him! And during Fashion Week!
Carrie: Do you believe his murder relates to Fashion Week?
Juliette: I have no idea. I just started working here, and I'm just an intern. I didn't know Sébastien well enough to guess why he was killed. He was nice to me.
Carrie: Well, if in the office gossip you hear anything that might help us, please let us know.

Examine Service Tray.
Carrie: <Name>, this leather glove was hidden under the things on that service tray!
Carrie: It could be a link to our murder! Let's get the glove to the lab for examination!

Analyze Leather Glove.
Enzo: <Name>, it is good to see you! And Mademoiselle Carrie, you are smoldering today! Have you done something different with your hair?
Carrie: No, it's the same as always. But you're sweet to say that.
Carrie: What can you tell us about the glove <Name> found on the service tray at the crime scene?
Enzo: Well, I can tell you that it's your killer's glove!
Enzo: Your victim was shot, non? Well, I found gun grease on the glove. And not only that...
Enzo: ... but it's the left-hand glove, and the grease pattern shows the killer used their left hand to shoot the victim!
Enzo: That means your killer is left-handed!
Carrie: Well, <Name>, soon we'll show this killer the left hand of justice!

Autopsy Victim's Body.
Carrie: Madame Ben- Er, sorry, Nadia. That will take some getting used to; old habits...
Nadia: You'd better kill that habit as soon as you can, or I'll give you a spank when you slip up!
Carrie: Nadia - I meant to say - what can you tell us about Sébastien Lefebvre's murder?
Nadia: First, that is a real shame that mankind lost such a nice specimen. I would have definitely preferred him lying in my bed rather than on my autopsy table.
Nadia: Anyway, he was shot, simply put, and the striations on the bullet I dug out of his chest indicate the killer probably used a silencer.
Carrie: Ah, a silencer would definitely explain how the shot went unnoticed on that street corner.
Nadia: Yes, whoever did this had an axe to grind with Lefebvre, and wanted to avoid making a scene.
Nadia: However, they did take a moment to drop ash from their cigarette onto his clothes.
Nadia: And Lefebvre didn't smoke cigarettes - I found a vape pen in his pocket.
Nadia: But I can tell you that your killer smokes Laval brand cigarettes.
Carrie: Back home people say cigarettes are like nails in your coffin. But for our killer they're more like bars in their jail cell!

Back at the precinct...
Carrie: Well, <Name>, we've got our second murder during Paris Fashion Week! I knew the industry was cutthroat, but this takes it too far!
Carrie: Fashion journalist Sébastien Lefebvre was shot while sitting on a bistro terrace.
Carrie: We learned from his editor that his strong opinions sometimes rubbed people the wrong way. But inciting murder?
Carrie: The CEO of Stacy's department store approached him, hoping Lefebvre would support the opening of a Stacy's here in Paris. And it didn't go well.
Carrie: I wonder if the intern at the victim's magazine will hear anything helpful in all the office chatter about the murder.
Léa: <Rank> <Name>, I'm glad I caught you!
Léa: You've got to get to the Flamme Magazine lobby, quick!

Chapter 2

Carrie James: <Name>, I knew fashion was cutthroat here in Paris, but we're only a couple of days into Fashion Week, and we're already investigating a second murder!
Carrie: Sébastian Lefebvre, a journalist for Flamme fashion magazine, was shot on the terrace of a bistro.
Carrie: We've talked to a few suspects, but I have a feeling there's more work to do!
Léa: <Rank> <Name>, I'm glad I caught you!
Carrie: What's going on, Léa?
Léa: You'll want to head to the Flamme Magazine lobby! The receptionist just called and said he found your victim's bag there!
Carrie: Was it left there by the killer? Does he think there's a bomb in it?!
Léa: No! Euh, well, I hope not! But I know it's probably helpful to your case!
Léa: I'm sorry, <Name>, I'm just excited to help! And I might've had too much coffee today.
Carrie: No need to apologize, Léa, that is helpful!
Léa: The receptionist had to leave for the night, but he said he left the bag in the lobby for you to check out.
Carrie: Perfect! <Name>, let's head to the Flamme Magazine lobby!

Investigate Entrance Reception.
Carrie: <Name>, the receptionist must have gone for the night. But you found the victim's satchel!
Carrie: Looks like we'll have to crack the code on that lock to see what's in it.
Carrie: And you found this crazy hat! Closer examination of it could help us ID another person who knew the victim.
Carrie: Oh, and what's this torn paper you found? Looks like a drawing. Let's put it back together!
