Events of Criminal Case

Kwanele became a suspect after Jack and the player identified him from a picture of him and the victim. He was saddened to hear of her death, saying he knew her for his whole life. He said they met because his parents worked at the orphanage where she was raised, and they started dating once they got older. However, he said the victim disappeared because she wanted some time to work on herself; but when she returned she was suddenly smarter and more sophisticated. She even became president of the national yacht club at the age of 24, making Kwanele proud.

Kwanele was spoken to again about a note he wrote to the victim saying he never wanted to see her again. He said he resented her for wanting to change him to suit her new lifestyle. Not only did she berate him on what to eat and making him learn to speak another language, she was not even around most of the time. According to him, last week she left for some island with no explaining. Since he felt that a relationship could not be built on that, when she returned he told her he did not feel the same about her since she changed.

In the end, the evidence revealed that Kwanele was Kayla's killer. After denying involvement, Kwanele admitted he killed Kayla. After learning of Kayla's induced superintelligence, Kwanele wanted to be a SOMBRA assassin, but she said he was too old. Wanting to prove his worth for the organization, he tied Kayla up, drowned her in the well and tried to murder Abioye. Judge Adaku sentenced him to 30 years in prison for the murder of Kayla Pieterse and the attempted murder of Prince Abioye.
