Events of Criminal Case

Jones and the player first talked to Joy after finding Ash's pendant signifying their relationship. When the cops told her he was dead, Joy said that she was not with him that day: the last she saw him was she kissed him goodbye at breakfast. The cops then left Joy to grieve.

Later, Joy almost incited a fight with former Skulls leader Troy Cassidy, accusing him of murdering Ash because of their former gang rivalry. Jones and the player quickly dissipated the fight before it could escalate further.

Jones and the player then found Joy's breakup envelope with Ash. Joy said that she was happy when Ash started making money off of his Double Vipers gang, relieved that Ash would no longer have to live the gang life. Even when they were already rich however, Ash still resorted to doing petty crimes like stealing and roughing people up. Joy then realized that she did not need to put up with Ash's behavior and that he needed to change, so she offered him an ultimatum: a life of crime or a life with her.

After gathering enough evidence, the team found Joy guilty of the murder. Upon admitting to the crime, Joy said that Ash was cheating on her with a young woman that he was regularly meeting with in the arcade. When she confirmed that Ash was seeing Kaitlyn Flynn, the detectives informed her that Kaitlyn was in fact his long-estranged daughter and not his mistress. She then began to feel remorse, saying that Ash had never told her about Kaitlyn. Judge Powell sentenced Joy to 20 years in prison.
