Killer and motives

The killer turned out to be German macabre artist Mark Hammerstein.

Mark admitted that when he discovered that Jean-Yves swapped out his black opals for fakes, he proposed to use the fake opals to create more skull art pieces that he would sell. However, Jean-Yves admitted that he had sold the opals already. To get payback, Mark laced Jean-Yves' coffee with cyanide and planned to collect his skull as the centerpiece for his next work. Judge Lebrun sentenced him to 25 years in prison for the crime.
