James Pemberton is a minor character in Criminal Case, appearing during the events of Tipping the Scales (Case #51 of Mysteries of the Past).

James is a pharmacist and Viola Pemberton's stepfather, marrying Beatrice Pemberton while she was pregnant with Viola from Horatio Rochester. He has short gray hair and brown eyes. He wears gold round glasses and a buttoned lab coat with the Pemberton Apothecary logo on it over a beige shirt with a purple bow tie.
Events of Criminal Case
Mid-investigation, Maddie and the player met James after Viola requested his assistance with the analysis of Archie Rochester's inhaler. He said that, despite everything, he loved Viola and always would. He then revealed that the inhaler contained chloroform, meaning that it was the instrument the killer used to render Archie unconscious. He also revealed that the chloroform had a high concentration that was only sold in Switzerland, meaning that the killer had been to Switzerland.
