Juggling With Death is a case featured in Criminal Case as the tenth case of City of Romance (Season 8) and the three-hundred sixty-second case overall. It is the final one to take place in the Attraction district of Paris.
Plot
Hugo and the player went to Cirque des Étoiles to uncover the animal smuggling ring. Yet in the circus' big top, they stumbled upon the body of animal handler Rémi Roy, whose head was bashed in.
Mid-investigation, the team had to rescue Enzo from being stuck on the circus' trapeze with the help of trapeze artist Sylvain Sauternes. Later, the circus' owner Antoine Macaron's goons threatened the team to hurry the investigation since the circus was losing profit. The team found enough evidence to arrest Stacy's CEO Howard Stacy for the murder.
Admitting to the murder, Howard revealed that Stacy's was on the verge of bankruptcy, leading him to purchase illegal fur from Rémi in order to cut costs. When Rémi decided to stop with the operations due to his "conscience", Howard suspected that Rémi was being dishonest and only wanted more money from the CEO. As Howard could not afford to pay Rémi anymore, the latter threatened that he would report their illegal deal to the police. Fearing to be jailed and lose his legacy, Howard bashed Rémi in the head with a juggling club until he died. Judge Lebrun sentenced him to 37 years in prison.
Post-trial, Hugo and the player interrogated Howard in prison regarding the smuggled animals. Fearing that he would be killed, Howard revealed nothing but directed them to the circus wagons. In the wagons, the team found a deflated ball which (per Enzo) had marks of cheetah teeth, hinting the presence of animals in the circus. After interrogating Antoine, who denied the accusations without proof, the team decided to go to the big top, thus finding a walkie-talkie recording Antoine urging his goons to take baby cheetahs away. The team confronted Antoine again with the undisputed proof, arresting him, saving the animals, and putting an end to the smuggling ring.
Meanwhile, High Commissioner Delacroix and the player organized a special event at the circus for his son Gauthier's birthday, with the help of the circus' ringmaster and its owner-to-be, Céleste Alouest. After all the events, while the team found out that Cody James was the person behind the anonymous tip-off about animal smuggling at the Popotin Rouge, they were also called to reinforce security for a special event at Place des Vosges.
